49-5-5303 - Term and renewal of principal certificates.
49-5-5303. Term and renewal of principal certificates.
(a) The initial certificate at each level shall be valid for ten (10) years and shall be renewable for additional periods of ten (10) years.
(b) Any career level certificate may be extended by the state board of education for a period of time not to exceed one (1) year if a person's illness, disability or family hardship prevents the completion of the evaluation for the purpose of recertification.
(c) If a career level I principal applies for a career level II certificate and is unsuccessful, the career level I certificate may be renewed if the principal meets the qualifications for a career level I certificate.
(d) If a career level II principal applies for a career level III certificate and is unsuccessful, the career level II certificate may be renewed if the principal meets the qualifications for a career level II certificate.
(e) A career level III principal who is denied recertification as a career level III principal shall be eligible, upon meeting minimum competency standards, to be certified as a career level II principal.
