Section 24-11A-6 - Local community correctional board--Membership.

24-11A-6. Local community correctional board--Membership. A local unit of government which contracts, or two or more units of local government which jointly contract with the department for placement of offenders, parolees, and inmates in its adult community corrections facility, or approves a nongovernmental agency to locate an adult community corrections facility for the placement of offenders, parolees, and inmates in its municipality or county, shall establish a local community correctional board in accordance with this chapter. This correctional board shall consist of nine members appointed by the municipal governing body if the facility is to be located in a municipality or by the board of county commissioners if the facility is to be located outside of a municipality unless otherwise designated. The local correctional board shall be comprised of:
(1) One prosecuting attorney;
(2) One municipal law enforcement officer;
(3) One county law enforcement officer;
(4) One representative of the Department of Corrections designated by the secretary;
(5) One court services officer designated by the Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court; and
(6) Four lay citizens, not more than two of whom may be from the same local unit of government if the local correctional board is established by two or more local units of government.
