§ 23-19-24.1. Solid waste diversion - Economic impact and strategies reporting.

(a) On or before January 1, 2018, the corporation shall submit to the governor, the senate president, and the speaker of the house, a study of the economic impact of Rhode Island recycling-related industries. The study shall include, but not be limited to, direct and indirect jobs created, direct and indirect economic impacts, and the potential economic benefits of achieving the state's fifty percent (50%) diversion goal.

(b) On or before January 1, 2018, the corporation shall submit to the governor, the senate president, and the speaker of the house, a report that provides strategies to achieve the state's fifty percent (50%) diversion goal, including the following:

(1) A review and update of the state's current diversion rate;

(2) Identification of problematic waste streams and sources and recommendations on handling those waste streams and sources;

(3) Evaluation of current programs and their effectiveness and recommendations for changes to those programs.
