§ 205 - Landholder’s obligations

The landholder shall be obliged to:

(1) Furnish the cropper the land agreed upon, seeds, sheds, farm implements and all such things as may be necessary for the cultivation of the farm in accordance with the contract, or in default of such contract, in accordance with the usage of the town.

(2) Make the necessary repairs to the farm in order to maintain it in proper condition for the use to which it has been devoted.

(3) [Allow] the sharecropper the peaceful enjoyment of the farm during the [term] of the contract.

(4) Liquidate and pay sharecropper his share of the crops harvested, if the sale thereof has been agreed upon.

(5) Comply with the provisions of Act No. 85 of May 14, 1928, unless the sharecropping contract is stated in a public deed or in a private instrument subscribed before a notary, district judge or justice of the peace. The [latter] two officers are hereby expressly empowered to authorize said contracts.
