Section 656.075 - Exemption from coverage for newspaper carriers; casualty insurance and other requirements.

An individual qualifies for the exemption provided in ORS 656.027 only if the newspaper publishing company or independent newspaper dealer or contractor utilizing the individual:

(1) Encourages any minor so utilized to remain in school and attend classes;

(2) Encourages any minor so utilized to not allow newspaper carrier duties to interfere with any school activities of the individual;

(3) Provides accident insurance coverage for the individual while the individual is engaged in newspaper carrier duties that is at least equal to the following:

(a) $250,000 unallocated hospital and medical benefits;

(b) $10 per week lost time benefits for a period of 52 weeks; and

(c) $5,000 accidental death and dismemberment benefit; and

(4) Provides the individual with a clear, written explanation or description of the amount and the terms and conditions of the insurance coverage required by this section, including a specific statement that the insurance coverage is in lieu of benefits under the Workers’ Compensation Law.
