§ 4549.17. Restriction on local officers where only small portion of freeway located in their jurisdiction.
 

(A)  No law enforcement officer employed by a law enforcement agency of a municipal corporation, township, or joint township police district shall issue any citation, summons, or ticket for a violation of section 4511.21 of the Revised Code or a substantially similar municipal ordinance or for a violation of section 5577.04 of the Revised Code or a substantially similar municipal ordinance, if all of the following apply: 

(1) The citation, summons, or ticket would be issued for a violation described in division (A) of this section that occurs on a freeway that is part of the interstate system; 

(2) The municipal corporation, township, or joint township police district that employs the law enforcement officer has less than eight hundred eighty yards of the freeway that is part of the interstate system within its jurisdiction; 

(3) The law enforcement officer must travel outside the boundaries of the municipal corporation, township, or joint township police district that employs him in order to enter onto the freeway; 

(4) The law enforcement officer travels onto the freeway for the primary purpose of issuing citations, summonses, or tickets for violations of section 4511.21 of the Revised Code or a substantially similar municipal ordinance or for violations of section 5577.04 of the Revised Code or a substantially similar municipal ordinance. 

(B)  As used in this section, "interstate system" has the same meaning as in section 5516.01 of the Revised Code.
