There is a newer version of the New York Consolidated Laws
2006 New York Code - Scope Of Subchapter; Definitions.
§ 27-4214 Scope of subchapter; definitions. a. (1) "Safety film", as defined in this section, creates a much lower fire and toxicity hazard than flammable motion picture film, as defined in section 27-4202 of the code. In order to separate the regulation, under the code, of establishments which handle safety film exclusively from the regulation of establishments which handle inflammable motion picture film, it is considered desirable to establish this separate subchapter. (2) The definitions and regulatory provisions within this subchapter shall apply only to those establishments which handle safety film exclusively, notwithstanding any other provisions in this chapter to the contrary. b. As used in this subchapter, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms shall mean and include: 1. "Safety film" means any film made of a material which has a safety rating equal to or better than the specifications of the American standards association method Number PH22.31-1958, or the latest revision or modification thereof, but shall not include magnetic tape used for recording sound or video tape used for recording pictures or sound or both. 2. "Film studio" or "shooting stage" means any establishment or space in a building, which establishment or space contains scenery or other stage paraphernalia or properties, fixtures or other special equipment used for taking pictures on safety film. 3. "Safety Class 1" means over fifty thousand feet to one hundred thousand (35mm width or greater), over one hundred thousand feet to two hundred thousand (16mm up to but not including 35mm width), over two hundred thousand feet to four hundred thousand (less than 16mm width) aggregate not to exceed five hundred pounds. 4. "Screening room" or "projection room" means any establishment or space in a building in which establishment or space motion pictures using safety film are displayed or exhibited to the trade and for which no admission fee is charged.
