    §  170.  Power of supreme court justices in Rockland county to appoint
  court officer or attendant.   The justice or  justices  of  the  supreme
  court, residing in Rockland county, may appoint, and at pleasure remove,
  a  court officer or attendant, to attend at the judge's chambers in such
  county, and the special  terms  of  the  supreme  court,  held  at  such
  chambers;  such  court  officer  or  attendant to receive a salary to be
  fixed by such resident justice, or justices, not exceeding  six  hundred
  dollars  per  annum,  to be paid monthly by the county treasurer of such
  county, upon the certificate of such justice or justices.
