Section 87SSS. No license to engage in business as a radio and television technician shall be issued to any applicant unless he has complied with all the pertinent provisions of sections eighty-seven PPP to eighty-seven VVV, inclusive, and has satisfactorily passed an examination prepared by the board to determine his competence. The board shall conduct such examinations at such times and places as it may deem necessary and shall conduct at least two examinations in each calendar year. In determining competence, the board shall require proof that the applicant has the knowledge, practical experience and skill necessary for the proper maintenance and repair of television and radio receivers and shall require a practical demonstration of the applicant’s skill. The board shall grant a credit of five per cent to the examination standing of each applicant who is a veteran. Every license issued by the board shall expire December thirty-first of each year and may be renewed within one year after expiration, without examination, upon payment of the renewal fee.
