§ 13-501. Definitions

MD Crim Law Code § 13-501 (2016) What's This?

(a) In general. -- In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

** REVISOR'S NOTE

This subsection is new language added as the standard introductory language to a definition section.

(b) Commissioner. -- "Commissioner" means the Baltimore City Police Commissioner.

** REVISOR'S NOTE

This subsection is new language added for brevity in repeated references to the Baltimore City Police Commissioner.

(c) Gaming event. -- "Gaming event" means a carnival, bazaar, or raffle.

** REVISOR'S NOTE

This subsection is new language added to avoid repetition of the phrase "carnival, bazaar, or raffle" and for consistency within this title.

(d) Raffle. -- "Raffle" means one or more drawings from a single series of chances sold from chance books.

** REVISOR'S NOTE

This subsection is new language derived without substantive change from former Art. 27, ยง 257(a)(4).

** REVISOR'S NOTE

Because the term "raffle" defined in this subsection is used only in the revision of material in which it originally appeared, its application to the entire subtitle does not constitute a substantive change.

** REVISOR'S NOTE

The reference to chances sold "from" chance books is substituted for the former reference to chances sold "by means of" chance books for brevity and clarity.
