Section 5-301 - Definitions.

§ 5-301. Definitions.
 

(a)  In general.- In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

This subsection is new language derived without substantive change from former Art. 27, § 36F(a). 
 

The reference to this "subtitle" is substituted for the former reference to this "subheading" to reflect the reorganization of the former statutory provisions on handgun permits in this subtitle. 

(b)  Board.- "Board" means the Handgun Permit Review Board.

This subsection is new language added to avoid repetition of the full title "Handgun Permit Review Board". 

(c)  Handgun.- "Handgun" has the meaning stated in § 4-201 of the Criminal Law Article.

This subsection formerly was Art. 27, § 36F(b).

(d)  Permit.- "Permit" means a permit issued by the Secretary to carry, wear, or transport a handgun. 
   
Revisor's Note.

This subsection is new language added to provide a convenient shorthand reference for the phrase "a permit issued by the Secretary to carry, wear, or transport a handgun".

(e)  Secretary.- "Secretary" means the Secretary of State Police or the Secretary's designee.

This subsection is new language derived without substantive change from former Art. 27, § 36E(l). 
 

The reference to "the Secretary's designee" is substituted for the former reference to the Secretary "acting directly or through duly authorized officers and agents of the Secretary" to conform to the terminology used throughout this article. 
 

The former phrase "[a]s used in this section" is deleted as unnecessary in light of subsection (a) of this section.
