Maryland Estates and Trusts Section 4-502

      (a)      Because of the rapid medical progress in the field of tissue and organ preservation, the transplantation of tissue, and tissue culture, and because it is in the public interest to aid the development of this field of medicine, it is the policy and purpose of the General Assembly of Maryland in enacting this subtitle to encourage and aid the development of reconstructive medicine and surgery and the development of medical research by facilitating authorizations for premortem and postmortem donations of tissue and organs.

      (b)      It is the purpose of this subtitle to regulate only the gift of a body or parts of a body to be made after the death of a donor.
