§149.5. Parking and traffic violations; citations; fines

RS 149.5 - Parking and traffic violations; citations; fines

A. The capitol police shall have authority to issue citations and make arrests for parking and traffic violations on the property of the state of Louisiana under the supervision of the superintendent of state buildings and grounds, or on the state capitol complex. The capitol police shall have authority to move a motor vehicle or have a motor vehicle moved for parking violations on said property or complex.

B. The term "parking violation" as used in this Section shall expressly include the unauthorized parking of any vehicle in a designated reserved area, provided that such areas are clearly marked and the possibility of having a motor vehicle moved or the possibility of criminal prosecution is clearly indicated by signs.

C. The fines and penalties for parking and traffic violations shall be fixed according to the schedule of fines and penalties for similar violations in the parish in which the violations occur. The Traffic Court of New Orleans and the district court in other parishes shall have exclusive jurisdiction over the parking and traffic violations that occur in their respective districts under the provisions of this Section.
