§1519.17.1. Physicians of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center medical centers and clinics; study of prospective requirement to serve on State Medical Disability Board

A. There is hereby created within the health care services division a task force to study and make recommendations concerning a prospective requirement for service by state-affiliated physicians on the State Medical Disability Board upon request of the Firefighters' Retirement System.

B. The task force shall be composed of the following six members:

(1) The chairman of the board of trustees of the Firefighters' Retirement System.

(2) The executive director of the Firefighters' Retirement System.

(3) The actuary of the Firefighters' Retirement System.

(4) One member representing the medical school of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport.

(5) One member representing the medical school of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at New Orleans.

(6) One member representing the health care services division of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at New Orleans.

C. The purpose of the task force shall be to study a prospective requirement for service by state-affiliated physicians on the State Medical Disability Board upon request of the Firefighters' Retirement System, and to make policy recommendations concerning this prospective requirement to the legislative committees on health and welfare and retirement.

D. The task force shall convene on or before September 1, 2014, and shall terminate on September 1, 2015.

E. No later than sixty days prior to the convening of the 2015 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana, the task force shall submit findings from its study in the form of a written report to the House Committee on Health and Welfare, the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare, the House Committee on Retirement, and the Senate Committee on Retirement.

F. For purposes of this Section, "state-affiliated physician" means any physician licensed to practice medicine by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners who meets either of the following criteria:

(1) Is a member of the faculty of a Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

(2) Has admitting privileges or regularly engages in the practice of medicine at any hospital or medical clinic of a Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center medical center and is employed by either of the following:

(a) The state of Louisiana.

(b) A private entity operating a Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center medical center through a cooperative endeavor agreement or other contractual arrangement with the state of Louisiana.
