CC 3164 — Right of retention until payment of debt.
Art. 3164. Right of retention until payment of debt.
The creditor who is in possession of the pledge, can only be compelled to return it, but* when he has received the whole payment of the principal as well as the interest and costs.
*The word "but" was retained here erroneously when "cannot" was changed to "can only" in RCC 1870.
