CHAPTER 27.  LOUISIANA PURCHASE

BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION

§1231.  Declaration of purpose

A.  The Legislature of Louisiana hereby recognizes that  the year 2003 marks the two hundredth anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase, an event which nearly doubled the size of the United States and paved the way for the country to become an important global power.

B.  The legislature further recognizes that, as the state approaches the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase, it is appropriate to celebrate and commemorate this anniversary through local and statewide observances and activities planned, encouraged, coordinated, and conducted by a commission created for such purpose.
