§1299.186.  Powers, duties, and responsibilities

The powers, duties, and responsibilities of the commission are:

(1)  To collect data related to the disparity in death rates in Louisiana between blacks and whites, men and women, and elderly and young, whose deaths are caused by treatable illnesses or diseases.

(2)  To identify any gaps in the health care and social service delivery systems in the state of Louisiana which cause or contribute to the disparity in death rates due to treatable illnesses or diseases among the indicated population.

(3)  To make recommendations for a broad-based public education campaign to raise awareness of factors which contribute to the disparity in death rates from preventable diseases.

(4)  To make recommendations to reduce cultural, environmental, and socioeconomic barriers to services and treatment which would reduce the disparity in death rates from preventable diseases among the indicated population.

(5)  To coordinate with the U.S. Center for Disease Control and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention to share resources and information in order to ensure a comprehensive approach to the issue of death rate disparity.
