§2159.  Closure of the Crescent Acres Landfill

A.  The Legislature of Louisiana does hereby require the closure of the Crescent Acres Landfill, located in St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes, in order to assist in fulfilling its duty to protect, conserve, and replenish the natural resources of this state in accordance with Article IX, Section 1 of the Constitution of Louisiana.

B.  On and after January 1, 1994, no waste of any nature shall be disposed of in the Crescent Acres Landfill located in St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes.  The secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality shall issue, no later than September 1, 1993, such orders as are necessary for the proper closure of the Crescent Acres Landfill.
