CHAPTER 321 - MOTOR VEHICLES AND LAW OF THE ROAD
321.183 - APPLICATION FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE OR NONOPERATOR'S IDENTIFICATION CARD -- SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION.

        321.183  APPLICATION FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE OR
      NONOPERATOR'S IDENTIFICATION CARD -- SELECTIVE SERVICE
      REGISTRATION.
         1.  A person who applies for a driver's license or nonoperator's
      identification card or for renewal of a driver's license or
      nonoperator's identification card, and who is required by 50 U.S.C.
      app. § 451 et seq. to register with the United States selective
      service system, shall be registered by the department with the
      selective service system.  The department shall forward to the
      selective service system in an electronic format the necessary
      personal information of such applicant, notwithstanding provisions to
      the contrary in section 321.11, subsection 3.
         2.  An applicant's submission of an application for a driver's
      license or nonoperator's identification card or for renewal of a
      driver's license or nonoperator's identification card shall indicate
      that the applicant has already registered with the selective service
      system or that the applicant authorizes the department to forward the
      applicant's personal information to the selective service system for
      registration.  The department shall notify the applicant on the
      application that submission of the application shall serve as consent
      to registration with the selective service system, if the applicant
      is required by 50 U.S.C. app. § 451 et seq. to register.
         3.  Notwithstanding subsections 1 and 2, an applicant for a
      driver's license or nonoperator's identification card or for renewal
      of a driver's license or nonoperator's identification card who is
      required to register with the United States selective service system
      shall not be registered by the department if, after being given
      information on the penalties for failure to register, the applicant
      declines to be registered.  The department shall forward to the
      selective service system in an electronic format the applicable
      personal information of such applicant indicating the applicant
      refused to be registered.
