Chapter 2. Unauthorized Storage of Motor Vehicles

Application of chapter
Sec. 1. This chapter applies to a motor vehicle that is:
(1) subject to registration under IC 9-18; and
(2) stored, parked, or left in a garage, trailer park, or other
storage or parking lot for more than fifteen (15) days.

Exception to application of chapter
Sec. 2. This chapter does not apply to a motor vehicle described
in section 1 of this chapter if:
(1) the person who owns the motor vehicle is personally known
to the person who owns the property on which the motor
vehicle is stored or parked; and
(2) the person who owns the motor vehicle has made
arrangements for the continuous storage or parking of the motor
vehicle on the property.

Notice by owner or operator of property that vehicle has been left
on property; report
Sec. 3. The person who owns or operates property on which a
motor vehicle described in section 1 of this chapter has been left
shall immediately give notice to an officer by filing a written report
on forms prepared by the officer containing a description of the
motor vehicle.

Report; contents
Sec. 4. The report required under section 3 of this chapter must
include the following information about the motor vehicle:
(1) The license plate number.
(2) The make.
(3) The motor and vehicle identification number.

Failure to file report; storage charges
Sec. 5. If the report required under section 3 of this chapter is not
filed with an officer, the person who owns or operates the property
may not charge for the storage of the motor vehicle for a period of
more than fifteen (15) days.
