In light of the similarity of the statutory provisions, opinions under former Code 1933, Ch. 84-20 are included in the annotations for this chapter.

Although cities may compel disabled veterans to obtain licenses, cities cannot compel payment for licenses. —

If one has qualified as a disabled veteran under provisions of this chapter, a city cannot compel that veteran to pay license fee or tax imposed upon conduct of that veteran’s business; however, if the city has enacted by valid ordinance under police powers vested in the city regulating businesses, the city may require one to obtain a license under provisions of that ordinance though one still may not be required to pay any fee for such license. 1954-56 Ga. Op. Att'y Gen. 904.

Real estate brokers and insurance agents not exempt from payment of license fees. —

Veteran’s certificate of exemption issued under authority of this chapter does not exempt either a real estate broker or a general insurance agent from payment of license fees. 1950-51 Ga. Op. Att'y Gen. 229 (decided under former Code 1933, Ch. 84-20, as it read prior to its revision by Ga. L. 1953, Nov.-Dec. Sess., p. 431, § 2.)
