468.314   Advisory Council on Radiation Protection; appointment; terms; powers; duties.

468.314  Advisory Council on Radiation Protection; appointment; terms; powers; duties.--

(1)  The Advisory Council on Radiation Protection is created within the Department of Health and shall consist of 15 persons to be appointed by the secretary for 3-year terms.

(2)  The council shall be comprised of:

(a)  A certified radiologic technologist-radiographer.

(b)  A certified radiologic technologist-nuclear medicine.

(c)  A certified radiologic technologist-therapy.

(d)  A basic X-ray machine operator or a licensed practitioner who employs such an operator.

(e)  A board-certified radiologist.

(f)  A board-certified nuclear medicine physician.

(g)  A certified health physicist.

(h)  A representative from the administration of a hospital affiliated with a radiologic technology educational program.

(i)  An expert in environmental radiation matters.

(j)  A chiropractic radiologist.

(k)  A board-certified podiatric physician.

(l)  A board-certified radiological physicist.

(m)  A board-certified therapeutic radiologist or board-certified radiation oncologist.

(n)  Two persons, neither of whom has ever been certified as a radiologic technologist or been a member of any closely related profession.

(3)  The council shall meet at least twice a year, but no more than four times per year unless authorized by the secretary.

(4)  Members of the council shall not receive compensation for their services; however, they are entitled to reimbursement for necessary travel expenses, pursuant to s. 112.061, from the funds derived from fees collected under the provisions of this part.

(5)(a)  The council may recommend to the department examination procedures for applicants and minimum requirements for qualification of applicants.

(b)  The council shall:

1.  Recommend to the department a code of ethics for the practice of radiologic technology.

2.  Make recommendations for the improvement of continuing education courses.

3.  Make recommendations to the department on matters relating to the practice of radiologic technology and radiation protection.

4.  Study the utilization of medical imaging and nonionizing radiation, such as nuclear magnetic resonance or similarly related technology, and make recommendations to the department on the personnel appropriate to conduct such procedures and the minimum qualifications for such personnel.
