Chapter 319i - Persons with Psychiatric Disabilities
Section 17a-479 - (Formerly Sec. 17-226f). Purposes of mental health regions. Receipt of services by persons residing outside region.

(a) The purposes of the mental health regions shall be to establish a system of regionalized services for care and treatment of persons with psychiatric disabilities; to provide other community mental health services for the maintenance of mental health and the prevention of psychiatric disabilities in addition to those services already available; to recommend contracts to be made by the Commissioner of Mental Health and Addiction Services for services from providers of mental health services, including private agencies and other state or municipal agencies; and to provide or arrange for grants for demonstration and pilot programs, research, education and training.

(b) A person receiving services from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services may receive services outside the region in which such person resides.

History: P.A. 75-563 changed regions' purpose to “arrange” contracts “through” mental health commissioner to purpose to “recommend” contracts “to be made by” commissioner; Sec. 17-226f transferred to Sec. 17a-479 in 1991; P.A. 95-257 replaced Commissioner and Department of Mental Health with Commissioner and Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and “mental illness” variants with “psychiatric disabilities” variants, effective July 1, 1995; P.A. 14-138 designated existing provisions as Subsec. (a), added Subsec. (b) re receipt of services outside the region and made technical changes.
