Section 17b-751d - Office of Early Childhood designated as state agency responsible for programs and activities to prevent child abuse and neglect.

CT Gen Stat § 17b-751d (2015) What's This?

The Office of Early Childhood shall be the lead state agency for community-based, prevention-focused programs and activities designed to strengthen and support families to prevent child abuse and neglect. The responsibilities of the office shall include, but not be limited to, collaborating with state agencies, hospitals, clinics, schools and community service organizations, to: (1) Initiate programs to support families at risk for child abuse or neglect; (2) assist organizations to recognize child abuse and neglect; (3) encourage community safety; (4) increase broad-based efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect; (5) create a network of agencies to advance child abuse and neglect prevention; and (6) increase public awareness of child abuse and neglect issues. The office, subject to available state, federal and private funding, shall be responsible for implementing and maintaining programs and services, including, but not limited to: (A) The Nurturing Families Network, established pursuant to subsection (a) of section 17b-751b; (B) Family Empowerment Initiative programs; (C) Help Me Grow; (D) Family School Connection; (E) support services for residents of a respite group home for girls; (F) volunteer services; (G) family development training; (H) shaken baby syndrome prevention; and (I) child sexual abuse prevention.

(a) to delete provisions re Children’s Trust Fund Council, effective July 1, 2013; P.A. 14-39 replaced references to Department of Social Services with references to Office of Early Childhood, deleted Subsec. (a) designator, deleted former Subpara. (D) re Kinship Fund and Grandparent’s Respite Fund, redesignated existing Subparas. (E) and (F) as Subparas. (D) and (E), deleted former Subpara. (G) re legal services on behalf of indigent children, redesignated Subparas. (H) to (K) as Subparas. (F) to (I), and deleted former Subsec. (b) re report, effective July 1, 2014; P.A. 14-103 amended Subsec. (a) to delete former Subpara. (D) re Kinship Fund and Grandparent’s Respite Fund, effective July 1, 2014; P.A. 14-182 made a technical change, effective June 12, 2014.
