CT Gen Stat § 20-377l (2013) What's This?

No person shall use the title “registered interior designer” or display or use any words, letters, figures, title, sign, seal, advertisement or other device to indicate that such person is a registered interior designer in this state, unless such person (1) has obtained a certificate of registration as provided in sections 20-377k to 20-377v, inclusive; or (2) is an architect licensed in this state.

*Note: On and after July 1, 2014, this section, as amended by section 1 of public act 13-110, is to read as follows:

“Sec. 20-377l. Use of title. Use of seal. (a) No person shall use the title “registered interior designer” or display or use any words, letters, figures, title, sign, seal, advertisement or other device to indicate that such person is a registered interior designer in this state, unless such person (1) has obtained a certificate of registration as provided in sections 20-377k to 20-377v, inclusive; or (2) is an architect licensed in this state.

(b) Any person holding a certificate of registration under this chapter may utilize a seal. Such seal shall only include: (1) The name of such person, (2) the words “Registered Interior Designer, State of Connecticut”, and (3) such person’s registration number.”

History: P.A. 87-519 made a technical change, removing mention of the required passing of the uniform national examination and replacing it with the requirement of obtaining a certificate of registration, effective October 1, 1988; P.A. 10-52 substituted title “registered interior designer” for “interior designer”, made technical changes and deleted former Subdiv. (3) re use of title “interior designer” for at least 1 year immediately preceding October 1, 1983, effective May 18, 2010; P.A. 12-169 added sign and seal to list of display or use prohibitions and made a technical change, effective July 1, 2012; P.A. 13-110 designated existing provisions as Subsec. (a) and added Subsec. (b) re utilization of seal, effective July 1, 2014.
