Chapter 538 Elevators, Escalators and Lifts
Sec. 29-197. (Formerly Sec. 19-416). Discontinuance of operation.

      Sec. 29-197. (Formerly Sec. 19-416). Discontinuance of operation. If any elevator or escalator is found which, in the judgment of the department, is dangerous to life and property or is being operated without the operating certificate required by section 29-196, the department may require the owner or operator of such elevator or escalator to discontinue its operation forthwith, and the department shall order a notice placed in the elevator or escalator stating that the elevator or escalator is out of service. When an elevator or escalator has been placed out of service, the owner or operator of such elevator or escalator shall not again operate the same until repairs have been made and permission given by the commissioner or his authorized agent to resume operation of such elevator or escalator.
