      Sec. 17b-274b. Pharmaceutical purchasing initiative. Annual report. The Commissioner of Social Services may implement a pharmaceutical purchasing initiative by contracting with an established entity for the purchase of drugs through the lowest pricing available notwithstanding the provisions of section 17b-280 for Medicaid, state-administered general assistance, ConnPACE and Connecticut AIDS drug assistance recipients. Any entity with whom the commissioner contracts for the purposes of this section shall have an established pharmaceutical network and a demonstrated capability of processing the prescription volume anticipated for Medicaid, state-administered general assistance, ConnPACE and Connecticut AIDS drug assistance recipients. The department shall report annually on the status of the pharmaceutical purchasing initiative to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to appropriations and the budgets of state agencies.
