2005 Arizona Revised Statutes - Revised Statutes §41-1505.03  Rural economic development program; coordinator; powers and duties

A. A state rural economic development program is established in the department to promote economic development in rural areas and communities of this state. The director shall employ a full-time coordinator to administer the program.

B. Under the direction of the director, the coordinator shall:

1. Develop selection criteria and an application format for rural communities or areas to utilize in applying for matching dollars.

2. Design a three year economic development educational and training program to be implemented by participating communities or areas.

3. Coordinate personnel activities of the department to ensure that selected communities or areas receive appropriate technical assistance to implement the three year economic development educational and training program.

4. Monitor the progress of rural economic development communities and other aspects of the program.

5. Assist local rural economic development professionals.

6. Solicit program and financial support from the private sector.

7. Coordinate the expenditure of any available federal monies to support the program.

8. Report annually to the governor and the legislature on the status of the rural economic development program, including specific reports on activities and accomplishments of communities and areas participating in the rural economic development program.

9. Perform other duties necessary to administer the rural economic development program.
