    42-609.  WATERMASTER'S ASSISTANTS -- EMPLOYMENT IN EMERGENCY -- OATH AND
COMPENSATION. A watermaster shall have power, in case of emergency, with the
approval of the  director of the department of water resources, to employ
suitable assistants in addition to those who may have been approved at the
annual meeting of the water users of the district to aid the watermaster in
the discharge of the watermaster's duties, who shall take the same oath as the
watermaster, and shall obey the watermaster's instructions, and shall be
entitled to a salary as set by the water users in their adopted budget and
approved by the director of the department of water resources, or if no budget
is adopted, then as set by the director of the department of water resources,
to be paid in the same manner as provided for the payment of watermasters.
