2005 West Virginia Code - §26-6-2. — Admission and maintenance of patients.

§26-6-2. Admission and maintenance of patients.

Any person, a resident of West Virginia, other than an inmate in a penal institution, and who is suffering a chronic illness, may upon proper order by the state commissioner of public institutions be admitted or transferred to Denmar State Hospital. The commissioner of public institutions may charge each patient for his maintenance a sum not to exceed one dollar per day; but the commissioner may, whenever it is deemed just and expedient to do so, exonerate any patient chargeable with such maintenance from the payment thereof, in whole or in part, if the commissioner finds that he is unable to pay or that payment would work an undue hardship upon him or upon those dependent upon him, who, by law, are financially responsible for him.
