2006 South Dakota Code - 3-3-1 — Veterans preferred in public employment--Age or physical impairment not todisqualify--Disabled veterans preferred over nondisabled.

     3-3-1.   Veterans preferred in public employment--Age or physical impairment not to disqualify--Disabled veterans preferred over nondisabled. In all public departments and subdivisions and upon all public works of this state and of the counties, municipalities thereof, honorably discharged soldiers, sailors, marines, and nurses of the Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection or China Relief Expedition, and veterans as that term is defined in § 33-17-1, who are citizens and residents of the state, shall be preferred for appointment, employment, and promotion; age, loss of limb, or other physical impairment which does not in fact incapacitate, shall not be deemed to disqualify them, provided they possess the qualifications and business capacity necessary to discharge the duties of the position involved. A veteran disabled due to a service connected cause shall be given a preference over a nondisabled veteran.
