Article - Health Occupations

§ 2-402.2.

      (a)      Unless authorized to practice speech-language pathology under this title, a person may not represent to the public by title, by description of services, methods, or procedures, or otherwise that the person:

            (1)      Is authorized to practice speech-language pathology in this State; or

            (2)      Evaluates, examines, instructs, or counsels individuals suffering from disorders or conditions that affect speech and language.

      (b)      Unless authorized to practice speech-language pathology under this title, a person may not use any word or term connoting professional proficiency in speech-language pathology, including but not limited to:

            (1)      "Communication disorders";

            (2)      "Communicologist";

            (3)      "Language pathologist";

            (4)      "Logopedist";

            (5)      "Speech and language clinician";

            (6)      "Speech and language therapist";

            (7)      "Speech clinic";

            (8)      "Speech clinician";

            (9)      "Speech correction";

            (10)      "Speech correctionist";

            (11)      "Speech pathology";

            (12)      "Speech-language pathology";

            (13)      "Speech therapist"; or

            (14)      "Speech therapy".

      (c)      While performing the duties of that employment, an individual employed by any agency of the federal government, county public school system, State approved nonpublic school for handicapped children, chartered educational institution of this State, or the State Department of Education may use any of the titles listed in subsection (b) of this section.
