§183.8. Timelines for full implementation of career major program

A.(1)  The career major program shall be implemented in not less than thirty percent of the high schools operated by any school system during the 2000-2001 school year.  Each school system superintendent shall select the participating schools and submit their names to the appropriate school board for approval.  Curriculum design teams shall be created by all selected high schools by October 1, 1998, and shall conduct monthly meetings thereafter until a career major curriculum is developed.

(2)(a)  The second year of program implementation shall follow the guidelines pursuant to this Paragraph.

(b)  The following timelines shall be followed for the second year:

(i)  Submission of first curriculum proposal to Department of Education by October 1, 1999.

(ii)  Evaluation team returns proposal with revisions, if necessary by January 31, 2000.

(iii)  Submission of revised curriculum proposal to Department of Education by April 15, 2000.

(iv)  Evaluation team submits curriculum programs to the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education for approval by July 1, 2000.

(v)  Program implementation at the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year.

(vi)  School year meetings in October, February, and June to evaluate the progress of each program.

(vii)  Design teams submit year-end evaluation of career major program to the Department of Education by July 1, 2001.

(viii)  The Department of Education forwards comprehensive report of program evaluation results to the Committees on Education of the Senate and House of Representatives by August 15, 2001.

B.(1)  The career major program shall be implemented in not less than an additional fifteen percent of the high schools in each city and parish school system beginning with the 2001-2002 school year until the program is fully implemented in all high schools no later than the 2005-2006 school year.

(2)  In meeting the requirements of Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, the following schedule of activities shall be followed as to each school in which implementation of the program is occurring:

(a)  By October first two years prior to the school year of implementation, a curriculum design team shall be established which shall conduct monthly meetings until a career major curriculum is developed for the school.

(b)  By October first of the school year preceding implementation, a curriculum proposal shall be submitted to the state Department of Education.

(c)  By January thirty-first of the school year preceding implementation, an evaluation team shall return each curriculum proposal to each implementing high school with recommendations for changes, if necessary.

(d)  By April fifteenth of the school year preceding implementation, the curriculum design team shall submit a revised curriculum proposal to the state Department of Education, if necessary.

(e)  By July first immediately preceding implementation, an evaluation team shall submit the career major program for each implementing school to the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education for approval.

(f)  During the school year of implementation, the curriculum design team shall meet during the months of October, February, and June to receive feedback regarding the career major program.

(g)  By July first immediately following implementation of the career major program and every year thereafter, each city, parish, and other local public school board shall submit a year-end evaluation of each career major program to the state Department of Education.

(h)  By November fifteenth immediately following implementation of the career major program and every year thereafter, the state Department of Education shall forward a comprehensive report of program evaluation results to the Committees on Education of the Senate and House of Representatives.
