Page 1 of 1 304.17A-647 Covered person's access to participating obstetrician or gynecologist - - Authorization for annual pap smear without referral. (1) An insurer shall not, under its health benefit plan prohibit a primary care physician from authorizing a covered person's referral to a participating obstetrician or <br>gynecologist. A primary care physician treating a covered person who is pregnant or <br>has a chronic gynecological condition may authorize a referral to a participating <br>obstetrician or gynecologist, up to twelve (12) months or for the contract period, <br>whichever is shorter. Under this referral arrangement the covered person shall have <br>direct access to the obstetrician or gynecologist, without the need of further contact <br>or referral by the primary care physician. (2) A female covered person shall be covered for an annual pap smear performed by an obstetrician or gynecologist without a referral from a primary care provider.
