As used in KRS 161.131 to 161.134 and KRS 157.395 and 161.123, unless the context <br>otherwise requires: <br>(1) &quot;Mentor&quot; means a highly skilled, experienced teacher who provides systematic and on-going support and assistance to other teachers in a school or school district to <br>help them improve their teaching skills and practices; (2) &quot;National Board for Professional Teaching Standards&quot; and &quot;national board&quot; means a nonpartisan, independent, and nonprofit board composed of teachers and others that <br>has developed a set of high and rigorous standards for accomplished teachers and <br>that operates a national voluntary system to assess and certify teachers who meet <br>their standards; and (3) &quot;National board certification&quot; means a demonstration by an experienced teacher of his or her teaching practice as measured against high and rigorous standards through <br>a comprehensive assessment process administered by the National Board for <br>Professional Teaching Standards.
